Penny Brohn collaboration - South Asian specific cancer talks

Focusing on diet and lifestyle, this series of events will explore how we can improve the impact of treatment and its outcome as well as minimise the risk of cancer reoccurrence. Participants will explore the emotional impact of cancer and will be supported to make practical plans to help them manage the impact and live well with cancer.

The programme is centred around four South Asian-specific nutrition and cancer talks taking place between September and February, which will be delivered in both English and Gujarati/other South Asian language and Hindi explanations. Each talk will last around 45 minutes and include 15 minutes for Q&A at the end.

In August, the collaboration kicked off with Toral leading a panel discussion, as part of South Asian Heritage Month, to explore cancer stories, myths, nutrition and resilience, to establish signposting partnerships and deepen connections with South Asian health groups around the UK, including the South Asian Health Action Group, Futureful, Asian Women’s Cancer Support Group and others.

'Creating specific nutrition and lifestyle cancer events for the South Asian community in the UK will help us to ensure that advice shared is both culturally sensitive and adheres to the various dietary and lifestyle requirements that we have, as South Asians helping us to heal and recover through cancer diagnosis and treatment, and beyond.'

With over 40 years’ experience, Penny Brohn UK recognises that people living with the impact cancer need more than medicine. The charity’s integrated approach works alongside medical treatment to help people achieve the best health and wellbeing.

The events will take place on the following dates at 7.30 in the evening on zoom beginning:
