Nutrition
Toral Shah, the founder of The Urban Kitchen, is currently completing her MSc in Nutritional Medicine (University of Surrey) after becoming more interested in nutrition when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. After much research on foods to fight cancer and improve the body's natural immunity to cancer, she formulated a list of foods to help her mother survive this disease. This year, Toral herself was diagnosed with breast cancer at the relatively young age of 29. The doctors have been amazed by her body's healing potential, which Toral attributes to a healthy diet, an active lifestyle and positive thinking.
The Urban Kitchen is involved with many charities and we will give free talks and demonstrations to charities and support groups about the importance of nutrition and cancer. In addition, Toral is involved with a pilot study (ADAPT) for diabetes patients and helps to run workshops to improve glycaemic control.

The Urban Kitchen is passionate about enjoying life and being healthy. However, there is no need to sacrifice taste for health. We recommend eating a varied diet, rich in fibre and a large range of fruit and vegetables. To help you, we run a course of Healthy Gourmet classes each term, to introduce new foods to your diet and healthy recipes to inspire you.
Other projects currently in the pipeline include nutrition for mothers-to-be and babies and children. These workshops will begin in 2007.
