Shot LDN

This City based healthy eating joint aims to change the face of the corporate lunchtime dash. The founders of SHOT, Asad and Rahil have a strong focus on health and wellbeing and their 10 promises, ranging from only using organic meat and natural sugars to only using ingredients free from chemicals and even in demonstrating transparency in everything they do makes a refreshing change from many other eateries.

Such virtue shows in their carefully planned menu and even in the cooking methods; it’s all about steaming, grilling, stewing and water-bath cooking. All the dairy used is organic as well as many of the vegetables. It also caters well for those with dietary requirements as the menu features many vegan and gluten-free options.

I wasn’t prepared to like this place as much as I did; many healthy eating venues in the City have lots of dishes filled with nutritious ingredients but with little respect for harmony of taste or actual enjoyment. However, the original menu for SHOT was created by head chef of Luc’s Brasserie and more recently recreated by chef Raj Chakraborty. These chefs have taken on the brief and adapted to fit the ethos of the founders to create spectacular dishes that are both tasty and healthy. This doesn't just mean great food but also great service as the customer is able to change the dishes if needed. For example, the wraps are all made fresh in house and the meat is even grilled to order.

Shot London Miso Broth

From the minute that I arrived to SHOT, I felt genuinely welcomed by the staff who were quick to help without being abrupt or overbearing.

As for the decor, it is incredibly white, almost clinical with a white tiled table and floor. However, I quite liked this as it contrasts well with the fresh and vibrant colour of the food and also makes for great Instagram shots (best seats for this are by the window!). My only gripe is that because of the size and popularity of the location and the fact all the food is freshly put together, it can get pretty crowded during lunchtime.

Food wise, I started with a cup of their delicious broth which was delicately spiced and not too salty unlike many other so called healthy broths. I then tried many of their dishes including the Vegan Miso and Green Tea Noodle Soup (Small £4.49/ Large £6.99), which was full of fresh ginger and other goodness and the Flaked Salmon Salad in a larger size as a main (Small £4.49/ Large £6.49). I particularly loved the vegan miso mayonnaise and can't wait to try recreate a similar lunch at home. Most of the dishes are available in two different sizes, which means you can easily grab something as a snack or dine in for a more substantial meal.

I walked to my next meeting replete and happy with a raw hot chocolate made with almond milk and look forward to sampling new seasonal offerings from Shot in the future!
